For skating at the runway rink, I wanted to put together a 70's inspired roller derby look. Since I was too busy trying to not fall while skating, I decided to take some proper photos of my outfit afterwards in the living room at the TWA hotel. It's a late 60's/early 70's vibe, so I thought it would be the perfect backdrop for this look. The top and shorts were both thrifted finds from this summer, so I was glad to finally get a chance to photograph them together.

A few weekends ago, my friends Katie, Jenna and I went to the TWA hotel for the day. This was the first time I've been back since before the pandemic, so I was so happy to be at one of my favorite places again. We started the day taking a few pictures before going to the Paris Cafe for lunch and drinks. After a quick wardrobe change, we headed out to the Runway Rink to roller skate. I was finally able to put my Impala Skates that I got during quarantine to good use. I was pretty proud of myself that I didn't fall once! Some more photos and another wardrobe change, and we were back at the Paris Cafe for another drink. We wanted to go to the Connie, but unfortunately it was closed due to a wedding. Overall, it was a great day and I can't wait to go back again.
Every summer, I become less motivated to take outfit photos and post on Instagram. The weather is too hot, engagement on social media is down. It just seems like too much effort for little reward. But something I had a lot of fun with this summer was documenting things on a disposable camera. This summer had it's disappointments for sure, especially weather wise, where we experienced lots of rain and extreme temperatures. But I tried to make the most of it and captured a few of my favorite moments on film. A day trip to Coney Island, a rooftop 4th of July Party, and walks in Central Park. In my opinion, disposable cameras are a great way to remember and appreciate the little things in life.
One of the highlights of this summer was the Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor's Island. It was something I missed a lot last year, so I was glad it was back this year. It was a bit more scaled back than usual, but it was nice to spend the day listening to live music and dancing. It was also one of the nicest days of the summer weather wise, so it made the day even better. Until next year...
I found this strawberry print dress a few weeks ago while thrifting at Beacon's Closet in Williamsburg/Greenpoint. It was originally a nightgown/house dress, but I hemmed it a few inches so it would look more fun and less frumpy. By styling it with the beret, basket bag and sunglasses, I think you would never even know this was actually a nightgown and just looks like a regular sundress.
Last weekend, my friend and I went to check out La Grande Boucherie for brunch. There are several locations of Boucherie around NYC, but this is the newest and largest location. The menus are the same (I got the french toast as usual) but as the name says, it's much more grand. I definitely recommend checking it out if you're in Midtown, it truly feels like you've been transported to Paris.
This summer was meant to be "the return of New York City" after the pandemic, but so far it's been off to a disappointing start. It's almost become laughable how every weekend when I want to get out and check things off my bucket list, the weather is rainy or extremely hot and humid. I'm trying to remind myself that I don't need to rush and do everything right away, and to just appreciate being back in NYC.
Last year when I attended a Studio 54 exhibit, I was inspired by some photos of NYC during that time. So I had the idea to recreate the vibe with my friend Desirae and a photographer named Lorenzo. We shot these photos around Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in front of an old bodega and also this car we found. I'm really happy with how they came out and think they encompass the original inspiration.
These are the first photos I shot in my new apartment. It's still nowhere near complete, but feels good to be in my own place. I'll be sure to share more once it's finished.
My sister got me this repurposed Chanel necklace for Christmas and thought it would pair well with this antique mirror my mom recently inherited from my aunt. So I threw on a beret, red lipstick and my favorite turtleneck and mentally transported to France. I'm still dreaming about the day I can get back to Paris, but for now, playing dress up in my room will have to do.
